Kristaps Porzingis To Be Traded To Boston Celtics In Three Team Deal

Kristaps Porzingis to be Traded to Boston Celtics in Three-Team Deal

Wizards, Celtics, and Grizzlies Involved in Blockbuster Trade

Porzingis Agrees to Opt into Contract

The Dallas Mavericks have traded Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick to the Washington Wizards for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans, according to a team announcement. The Wizards are then reportedly completing a three-way deal with the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies that will send Porzingis to Boston and Marcus Smart to Memphis.

The move brings an end to Porzingis' three-year stint in Dallas, where he struggled with injuries and inconsistent play. The 7-foot-3 Latvian center was originally acquired by the Mavericks from the New York Knicks in 2019.

For the Celtics, the addition of Porzingis provides a much-needed boost to their frontcourt. The team has been lacking a consistent scorer in the paint since the departure of Al Horford in 2019.

The Wizards, on the other hand, are parting ways with one of their two leading scorers from last season. Porzingis averaged 17.2 points and 8.7 rebounds in 34 games for Washington in 2021-22.

The trade is expected to be finalized after the completion of the NBA Draft lottery on May 17th.
