Early Life and Career
Born on March 23, 1992, in Melbourne, Australia, Kyrie Irving is an American professional basketball player currently playing for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
College Career
Before joining the NBA, Irving played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils. He was a highly touted recruit and was named the ACC Rookie of the Year in his freshman season.
NBA Career
Early Success
Irving was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He quickly became a star, earning Rookie of the Year honors and helping the Cavaliers reach the NBA Finals in 2015.
Championship with the Cavaliers
In 2016, Irving joined LeBron James and Kevin Durant to form a "Big Three" in Cleveland. Together, they led the Cavaliers to their first NBA championship in franchise history.
Time in Boston and Brooklyn
After the Cavaliers won the championship, Irving requested a trade and was sent to the Boston Celtics. He spent two seasons in Boston before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.
Return to Dallas
In February 2023, Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, where he is now averaging over 20 points per game as the team's starting point guard.
